OUTREACH MINISTRY

The OUTREACH MINISTRY TEAM focuses on community projects where there is an evident

need which we as a church can fulfill;  provides visitor brochures, hospitality and new member

events; offers a card ministry to our congregation on their special days;  recognizes newborns

and heads Lay visitation to our shut-ins.  One of our members monitors multimedia, especially

TV, for wholesome family viewing. We lead and provide financial and substantive aid to feed

the homeless and/or poverty stricken families through congregational involvement. We also

encourage small group participation in prayer and study groups in always welcome your input

          and ideas for further ministry.

The Outreach Committee’s biggest event is Thanksgiving Dinner.  Last year over 400 people

were served, and each year we expect more.

Reaching out and touching someone’s life brings joy to them and to you!

The Gathering

Every Sunday morning blessings abound as we gather together. Some of our most faithful are

of Hispanic origins.  In an effort to bridge the linguistic and cultural gap I ask them to teach me

sayings in Spanish.  Anytime I explore word   meanings in another language or read different

Bible translations, I am rewarded with new clarity and  understanding.

Several weeks ago, I decided that I wanted to be able to ask in Spanish whether a person knew

Jesus.  I remembered from high school Spanish that there are two different words for the verb

‘to know’. I decided to ask a group of “regulars” who speak Spanish to help me. They conferred

together and told  me that the correct verb to use was conocer. I smiled, told them gracias, and

         turned to walk away.

Humberto quietly called me back.  “That’s not what we say.” He softly told me.

“We say estoy en Christo. That means ‘I am in Christ’.  That is very important to us.”

What a beautiful thought. I absolutely saw ‘knowing’ Christ in a new way.  This idea expressed

so much more, implied such deeper meaning, and certainly seemed more profound to me that

just asking someone if they ‘knew Jesus’.

Juan 14:20  En aquel dia ustedes se daran cuenta de que yo estoy en mi Padre,

y ustedes en mi, y yo en ustedes.

John 14:20  On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me and I am in you.

We all implore you to Vaya con Dios

Go with God, blessings and peace,
